The iconic Il Pellicano hotel is nestled between the rocky cliffs just off the Italian coast, renowned as much for its mind-blowing views as it is for its chic guests. In the 1960s, Il Pellicano became known as a gathering place for the glamorous set (Bing Crosby, Sophia Loren, Marisa Berenson, to name a few), but it always felt more like home than a hotel to Stephanie. As a young girl, she and her father Stephan von Watzdorf were regulars at Il Pellicano. The hotel’s rustic-chic charm drew famed photographer Slim Aarons, who documented Stephanie’s family and holiday guests as they swam in the saltwater pool, lounged around the jetty and sailed the bay of Porto Ercole. The sparkling sea, crooked roads and sweet aromas in the air were—and still are—distinctively Mediterranean.
